RAMBUTAN - According to popular belief and the origin of its name, rambutan is originally Indonesia and Malaysia. Rambutan trees grow naturally in Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and elsewhere in Southeast Asia, although its precise natural distribution is unknown. The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellow), and covered with fleshy pliable spines, hence the name rambutan, derived from the Malay word rambut, which means hairs. The fruit is a round to oval single seeded berry. The white juicy flesh is soft and edible. The taste is sweet and acidic. The single seed is glossy brown, 1–1.3 cm and it’s inedible.

Jackfruit are known for having a distinct aroma. The flesh of the jackfruit is starchy and fibrous and is a source of dietary fiber. The flavor is comparable to a combination of apple, pineapple, mango and banana, but overall it taste sweet. Jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. Ripe jackfruit is naturally sweet with subtle flavoring. It can be used to make a variety of dishes, including custards, cakes, and chips.

SALAK (SNAKE FRUIT) - (Salacca zalacca) is a species of palm tree from Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia. The fruits grow in clusters at the base of the palm, and are also known as snake fruit due to the reddish-brown scaly skin. The pulp is edible. The fruit can be peeled by pinching the tip, which should cause the skin to slough off so it can be pulled away. The fruit inside consists of three lobes with the two larger ones, or even all three, containing a large inedible seed. The taste is usually sweet and acidic, but its apple-like texture moist and crunchy

Fresh passion fruit contains provitamin A beta carotene, vitamin C, dietary fiber and iron.

The fruit of the mangosteen is sweet and tangy, juicy, and somewhat fibrous. The round, apple-sized and deep purple fruit is easily cracked opened by pressing between both palms, but be careful since the rind exudes a reddish sap like the beetroot that stain clothes.

The fully ripened, freshly harvested shell is bark-like, thin, and firm, making the fruit easy to shell by squeezing the fruit out. The taste is sweet and juicy contains a lot of water.
