On Wednesday 24th April 2013 one of Germany’s leading travel companies, Meier’s Weltreisen was welcomed to InterContinental Bali Resort for a special evening, as part of Meier’s Weltreisen’s “Far East Live” seminar in Bali.
Attending the event were representatives from over 280 travel agencies, including owners, managers and other agency team members. Senior executives from Meier’s and Go Vacation, the Asian based partner, were also welcomed, including Matthias Rotter, Managing Director, Meier’s Weltreisen, Christoph Mueller, Managing Director, Go Vacation Thailand, Hermann Wegmueller, Executive Director Product & Contracting, Go Vacation, Horst Pezetta, Product Director Go Vacation Indonesia and Sedat Tatli, Director Division Asia Pacific Meier’s Weltreisen.
Guests arrived at the resort following a busy day of educational seminars about the destinations explored, being welcomed by the resort’s General Manager, Michel Chertouh, when the Balinese hostesses of the evening placed Frangipane flowers behind each guest’s ear as a sign of welcome.
Many guests then took the opportunity to explore the resort, inspect the luxurious and spacious accommodation, and especially visit the renowned Club InterContinental, with its legendary service and facilities, including 24-hour room service, special Club Lounge and private club swimming pool, with its own cocktail bar.
After informal cocktails the attendees were transferred to the evening’s final venue by horse and cart, known locally as dokar, the resort’s Alun Alun, a beautiful location overlooking the tranquil sea of Jimbaran Bay. Guests enjoyed an abundant local buffet including a plethora of seafood cooked in local styles and the specialty of Bali, ‘Babi Guling’, a suckling pig stuffed with rice and local herbs and spices, then basted with coconut milk.
Entertainment throughout the evening was unique and varied, commencing with gamelan, and then a local band to which guests spontaneously rose up and danced to. There were speeches by Matthias Rotter, Managing Director of Meier’s Weltreisen and Michel Chertouh, General Manager, InterContinental Bali Resort. Guests enjoyed the prize draw with over 35 prizes from the resort.
The evening finished with the release of 150 lanterns, which were launched by the agents, to calmly and gently drift up from the beach and float across JimbaranBay – each with a special wish!
