Balinese butler I Nyoman Agustamadiharta (known as Agustama) hails from the island’s Tabanan regency; he is married with one child and has been working as a Butler at InterContinental Resort Bali since February 2005. He believes in the importance of “Making guests happy by anticipating their needs.” His aim, he says is to “Make my guests’ stay a memorable one so that they will want to return to the Resort.”
Two such returning guests were Mr. and Mrs. Mah, who have Ambassador Membership; they returned to the Club InterContinental at InterContinental Bali Resort with their three children – two girls and one boy. The family practices the Hindu and Buddhist religions, and one day during their stay, they told Agustama that they would like to participate in a cleansing ceremony at a priest’s house in Sanur, as well as visiting a Balinese Temple, and also a Buddhist Temple near Kuta, called Pura Candi Narmada. Mr. and Mrs. Mah had an important reason for wanting to do this; one of their daughters was about to take her final exams at university in Australia, so this spiritual quest was to ask for good luck and success for their daughter, and good health and happiness for all the family. Agustama arranged everything they asked for, and more, in a two-day programme. Outside of his working hours, he prepared fruit and cake, and he bought some Balinese offerings from Jimbaran Market. His guests were very happy with everything that he arranged for them, and have said they will most definitely be returning to Club InterContinental Bali for their next holiday so they can enjoy some more of Agustama’s superb and thoughtful service.
