Rumah Desa: an Authentic Balinese Life

Categories In The Know

Recently we visited Rumah Desa at Marga village, Tabanan Bali. Recommended by our concierge, we brought our Travel Blogger from Hongkong with us.

They picked up us at the lobby at 08:00am sharp. The guide Mr. Mendra was so kind, very informative and explain us just about everything in details.  We need 1,5 hour to get to that place. We passed the scenic road along the way. It was pleasure to see rice fields and greenery.

We arrived in a Balinese house belongs to Mr. Wayan. It consist of 30 family member! Yes, that’s a lot of numbers! It was a large compound too. We arrived and passed a Balinese gate and we found a family temple for their ancestors, and we met the Grand Pa who made hats from coconut leaves. At the back we found the traditional Balinese kitchen. We were so excited to see the traditional stove that is used by the Balinese Mom.

We also taught how to make a coconut oil. Balinese People uses Coconut Oil on their daily life just like the western use their Olive Oil. Pak Medra, our guide demonstrated how to peel the coconut, grated it and cooked it to get the oil. we will tell you the other excited experience at the other series of Rumah Desa. This is a new Experience for us. We went home with so much experience and contented with another culture we learned that day.
